嘛西搜有 (맛있어요，韩文中“好吃”的意思) ！这可是馋嘴大人最精通的一句韩文哟～ 不过今天光靠这一句要与 Thank U Mom 的韩裔老板来个深度见面会应该颇有难度思密达 (大人请勿滥用韩语…)。幸好大人团队中有个韩语迷，“书到用时方恨少” 这回事不会发生在咱身上哦～ 看着咱的韩语迷全程用韩语与老板深情交流，真是让大人在旁好生羡慕哟 😀
若对韩国连锁饮食文化毫无概念，那初次听到 Thank U Mom 应该无法联想这竟是烤鸡品牌吧？由来自京畿道的韩裔老板 Mr Cho Jae Seob 亲自主理，这家位于新山 AEON Bukit Indah 对面的 Thank U Mom 可是韩国海外第一家分行哟 (在韩国已有逾150家分行)！
A little Korean (language) can go a long way! Sometimes you’ll come across extra food or drinks for free, discounts for no apparent reason at all, or even people refusing money from you. As this is the case with many Koreans, you’ll have plenty of reason to say, “Thank you!”. But as a true blue foodie and Korean food fanatic, the very first phrase you should take home is “Masisseoyo“, which means “it’s delicious” in Korean. Such literacy will come in handy as we approached the Korean Baked (not Fried) Chicken’s franchise first overseas outlet outside of Korea, right smack in the middle of Johor Bahru and conveniently located just opposite AEON Bukit Indah!
No prize for guessing our second phrase for the day: “Gamsahamnida,” which is probably a chicken feat (pun intended) for many. A big “Thank you” to Mr Cho Jae Seob for your kind invitation and hospitality for our party of four; and coincidentally, our special lunch for the day is none other than Thank U Mom famous Korean-style oven-baked chicken, pizza & pasta! Having a Korean drama fanatic and fluent speaker among our rank gave us all the more reason to hit it off with the native Korean owner, who hailed from Gyeonggi-do, approximately 50km Southeast of Seoul!
看官们举目所见的主要整体室内设计皆由韩国品牌团队亲自越洋到此监督，坚守品质标准的信念无可动摇 (餐厅内的桌椅、碗盘餐具、纸巾等都依据韩国连锁总店规格，除了小部分室内格局规划可依照本地作业方式进行) 。Mr Cho 告诉大人们 Thank U Mom 之所以选择新山作为海外第一分店据点，主要是由于新马两地的食客们对健康饮食的意识与日俱增，而韩国的速食文化其实并非皆与油腻不健康挂钩，要打破这一既有概念，看来大人得化身品尝尚宫，亲自试一试韩式烤鸡的滋味！
Mark our words, this is no ordinary fast food joint or yet another Korean Fried Chicken shops sprouting all over Malaysia and Singapore, but an established South Korean franchise with over 150 outlets in Korea, so we wonder: “What brings Thank U Mom to Johor Bahru, of all places? In the words of Mr Cho, JB is getting more health-conscious like their Singaporean counterparts, with proximity and affordability from both sides swaying the vote towards our Southern border city rather than the capital. YEAH!
Thank U Mom operates a research institute with innovative design and a company-affiliated research institute that caters to all outlets. From uniform to cutlery, all commercials and printing materials are developed and supplied by Thank U Mom’s design research institute to ensure a consistent brand experience for all customers at all its outlets. Being the first overseas outlet, the design team even specially flew in from Korea to survey the market and work with local designers and suppliers to recreate the Thank U Mom experience as if you have arrived in any of their outlets in Kimchi land.
今年5月初才开张的 Thank U Mom，位于二楼的室内与室外吸烟区空间大约可容纳60人。由于这里的烤鸡是采取现点现烤的方式 (老板非常注重食材的新鲜度，鸡只每日入货)，而每份烤鸡需费时约20分钟 (腌渍＋烘烤)，其他食物也因坚持不使用快捷的包装即煮调味料来烹煮而耗时较长，所以若是看官们选择周末巅峰时刻到此用餐，或许得等上好一会儿。
为了创造一个开心幸福而不太拥挤的用餐环境，在本地已生活多年的 Mr Cho 每每在餐厅时总爱与食客们交流与传达健康饮食的观念，看来大人选择周日上门光顾是正确的决定啊 (不然哪有机会与老板侃侃而谈) ！笑容可掬的女服务生Rain告诉大人，星期一至四可以预订座位哟, 留位时间均为15分钟，不想大排长龙的看官们快笔记吧！
Located on the second level, Thank U Mom has been flying high without the fry since May 2016. Only baked upon receiving a new order, the chef will remove the chicken backbone and oil by hand precisely, and coat over the chicken with freshly harvested Korean rice (and other flavourings) for baking in the oven for 15 minutes, resulting in well-being, savory and crispy chicken with low calorie.
With customer’s satisfaction and comfort in mind, Mr Cho insisted that the seating layout be spacious and conducive for family and large group gatherings, without compromising their dining experience simply by packing them in. As such, only a maximum of 60 patrons could be seated comfortably at any one time. To avoid disappointment for walk-in customers, some of whom braved the weather and traffic just to savour the authentic taste, reservations are only allowed on Mondays to Thursdays (excluding public holidays), with a maximum grace period of 15 minutes, so it pays to be punctual, if not early!
Thank U Mom 采用与韩国统一的餐单与食谱，从腌渍酱料、特调酱、饮料、主要食材 (鸡除外)等皆由韩国进口。厨房里的灵魂人物 – 总厨是老板Mr Cho的韩裔妻舅 Mr. Yu (受韩国连锁总店认证的Thank U Mom Cooking Master)，老板告诉大人由于韩国是一个民族特色十分鲜明的国家，正宗道地及独特的饮食文化还是得由韩国总厨才能诠释得淋漓尽致啊！
海报上的鸡块看起来如此酥脆香嫩，谁会想得到食用油在此毫无立身之地啊？太不可思议了。为此，大人特地潜入厨房一窥究竟！老板告诉大人 Thank U Mom 一般使用中等尺寸的鸡只 (每只约1公斤) ，切块后才方便入口食用哟，真贴心。经过韩国秘制酱料简易腌渍后，撒上由韩国特为马来西亚分店而调的米糠再送入烤炉烘烤15分钟，烤炉内的旋转气流循环在短时间内可逼出食物本身的油脂，因此 Thank U Mom 的烤鸡比起一般速食品牌炸鸡更为健康不油腻。
The kitchen was helmed by Mr Yu, a native Korean and Thank U Mom trained chef and certified Cooking Master. Together with Mr Cho (his brother-in-law), the family team strives to deliver only the most authentic Korean recipes and flavours, by importing all ingredients directly from Korea. To retain the succulence and quality of the chicken, the chickens were sourced from the best local suppliers, obtained when the chickens weigh about 1 kg for optimal fat content.
Taking a peek at the kitchen, which is usually off-limits, the fresh chicken is baked from scratch to order, which takes 20 minutes to cook, so expect up to an hour long wait during peak hours, but we assure you it is really worth your while.

看看这最受食客们欢迎的 Oven Baked Chicken Original (全鸡各部位，再搭两种特调酱料：Honey & Garlic Sauce & Chilli Sauce)！大人从头到脚内心齐呐喊 ～嘛西搜有!!!～ 果然看起来没有很油腻思密达… 잘 먹겠습니다 (韩文中的”开动啦”) !
The all-time favourite Oven Baked Chicken Original is a must-order and a recommended starter for all things chicken, and best complimented by the accompanying Honey & Garlic Sauce & Chilli Sauce for the extra flavours. Look Ma! It’s not oily, let’s tuck in – “Jal Meokkesseumnida”!
酱烤／香辣／蒜香烤鸡 Baked Chicken with Teriyaki & Garlic Sauce / Hot Spicy / Honey & Garlic Sauce
除了原味烤鸡，大人还点了店家推荐的Baked Chicken with Teriyaki & Garlic Sauce (全鸡Whole RM61, 无骨Boneless RM64)，Hot Spicy Baked Chicken (全鸡Whole RM58, 无骨Boneless RM61) 和 Baked Chicken with Honey & Garlic Sauce (全鸡Whole RM61, 无骨Boneless RM64)。 除了堂食之外, 据悉有不少食客不惜远道而来外带与家人共享。
The chickens were served in the form of whole chicken, crispy wings or boneless version (aka nuggets style), and comes in five additional flavours, namely Teriyaki and Garlic Sauce, Hot Spicy Sauce, Honey and Garlic Sauce, Black Bean Sauce and Chili Sauce, but we gave the latter two a miss, so that we have reasons to be back again LOL! We were told that there are many regulars who would come near and far just for the takeaways too. Jinja (Really)?
Regardless of the flavours, the texture of Thank U Mom’s baked chicken certainly left a deep impression on every bite. Crispy on the outside with tenderized flesh on the inside, we loved the flavourful and well-sauced Chicken. The flavored wings were evenly coated with a layer of savoury (or spicy) sauce with a touch of sweetness, yet did not ‘rob’ the outer skin of its crispiness. Also, the chicken breasts were moist yet not fatty. As a tip, add the various dips for a guiltily pleasurable treat. The servings were huge and recommended for two to share, but if you are feeling adventurous, you can always try the other flavours or go for the sides which are equally delectable!
凯撒鸡肉沙拉 Caesar Salad with Chicken
这应该是大人见过最靓丽的沙拉了，这道名为凯撒鸡肉沙拉 Caesar Salad with Chicken (RM30) 的份量十足，里头撒满了粒状烤鸡块，再淋上特制沙拉酱与韩国黑豆酱以网状将新鲜蔬菜覆盖在下，与烤鸡配着一块儿吃还真不赖。
This is probably the most presentable Caesar Salad we have come across for a long time, with a wide variety of fresh greens such as romaine, red beet, paprika, and chicory and Grilled Chicken Breast topped with slightly salty Caesar dressing for a really great palette cleanser.
烤马铃薯 Oven Baked Potatoes
没想到这烤马铃薯 Oven Baked Potatoes (RM22) 也是无油烤制的啊！老板嘱咐一定得蘸酱哟，大人遵命！果然嘛西搜有!!!～
The Oven Baked Potatoes also comes with three kinds of potato sticks with savory seasoning that was well-complimented by the accompanying Korean-style tartar & tomato sauce that screams “Masisseoyo“!
Thank U Mom 当家料理 Cabonara Pasta ／ Oven Cooking Spaghetti ／ Tteokbokki with Mozarella Cheese
除了烤鸡外，这些可都是店家颇受欢迎的料理哟！Carbonara Pasta (RM29，上图)，Oven Cooking Spaghetti (RM27，左图) 及芝士辣炒年糕 Tteokbokki with Mozzarella Cheese (RM23，右图)。嗜辣的食客们必试芝士辣炒年糕，Q弹的年糕口感让大人不禁连吃了两口，真是有够呛辣够味的！大人温馨提醒，这几道食物都有芝士如影随形，绝对需要呼朋唤友一起分享才行哟～
Still yearning for more? Any of these popular Italian favourites will certainly fill up whatever space you have left. Take you pick from the Carbonara Pasta with crispy bacon with savoury cream sauce or the Oven Cooking Spaghetti with 100% natural Mozzarella cheese goodness. But what really caught our eyes and appetites was the Italian-style fusion Tteokbokki with Mozzarella Cheese that’s full of surprises, with well-cooked fusilli seasoned with savory cream sauce and sufficient cheese for stress release haha!
店家推荐饮品 Thank U Mom Ade ／ Sparkling Makgeolli ／ hite 韩国啤酒
这就是大人的夏天解药！大人好爱 Thank U Mom 的饮料啊！五种以果酱搭配雪碧的 Thank U Mom Ade (RM12 each)， 大人都尝了哟～ 计有：济州岛橙汁Hanrabong Ade、青葡萄汁 Green Grape Ade、葡萄柚汁 Grapefruit Ade、青柠汁 Lime Ade 及芒果汁 Mango Ade。大人的最爱当属济州岛橙汁与青葡萄汁，酸甜指数极得我心。若看官们喜欢带苦的口感，那就非点葡萄柚汁不可哟～
老板特别推荐的覆盆莓米酒 Sparkling Makgeolli (Raspberry, RM22，左图)，覆盆莓营养丰富，是韩国公认的女性黄金水果，具有抗衰老、减肥、治疗泌尿道感染等疗效，这米酒真的很顺口，大推哦！
右图这瓶 hite 韩国啤酒 (RM21)，代言人就是…宋仲基！姑且不论滋味如何，能喝上一口宋先生代言的啤酒，宋太太们应该心满意足了吧！大人差点想把墙上的海报给拿下送给宋太太们哟～
When it gets hotter (due to the weather or heavy spices), the Thank U Mom Ade made with homemade fruit syrups and sparkling Sprite offers some refreshing breaks, and comes in 5 refreshing flavours – Hanrabong (Jeju Orange), Green Grape, Grapefruit, Lime and Mango goodness that is just delightful… “Chuwahaeyo” (Love it)!
If you are game enough for some kick to spice up your meal, look no further than their signature Sparkling Makgeolli – probably the oldest alcoholic beverage native to Korea. Mixed with raspberry juice to give it a unique fruity twist which tastes sweet and milky, this flavourful concoction is rich in anti-oxidants due to the raspberries, and the dietary fiber in Korean rice wines are known to slow the ageing process, aid digestion and improve immune function, an absolute no-brainer even for the uninitiated. But WAIT, the top-selling Hite Korean Beer looks especially inviting with the Song Joong-Ki appeal, so needless to say, our female counterparts nearly ripped the wall posters apart after having a few rounds… “Geonbae” (Cheers in Korean)!
