说起印度美食，大伙儿脑海中第一时间想起的应是早餐或宵夜的良伴 – 印度煎饼。身为世界人口第二大国，国土面积位居世界第七，充满神秘色彩的印度美食岂止煎饼、咖喱让人一眼看穿啊～ 若以流派区分，印度菜可分为南北两大菜系，身为印度菜系门外汉的大人我当然无法从肉眼辨南北，幸得今日到访之餐厅负责人 Mr. Anthony 细细分享：北印度菜系呈微辣、较甜；南印度菜系呈酸、咸、辣，口味较重。
在尚未瞧见 Olive Kitchen + Bar 的美食庐山真面目之前，先绕场一周看看用餐环境吧！
Indian cuisine is very much a celebration of its rich history and culture. Thankfully, we get to enjoy a good selection of North and South Indian dishes in Johor Bahru, beyond the usual roti canai (or roti prata) during breakfast or supper. Though not as comprehensive as what we would find in India itself, we have always enjoyed Indian cuisine but found it a pity that it has never been as heavily featured in our culinary scene.
Thanks to Anthony, we are now able to do justice to our friends from India and fans of Indian cuisine, as we bring you a taste of India at Olive Kitchen + Bar, where ancient recipes are brought to life for everyone to enjoy an authentic North Indian culinary experience that is suitable for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
自2013月4月立业至今，位处依斯干达公主港湾旁的正宗北印度美食餐厅 Olive Kitchen + Bar，由来自印度加尔各答、拥有15年经验的大厨亲自掌厨。经大人询问之下才发现 Olive 原是此港湾区第一家开张的餐馆，平日饱尝西餐的看官们也许曾经过门而不入，那这一回就让大人替各位推荐几道正宗北印度料理吧！由两间店面打通而成的宽敞舒适内外空间可容120人，全室色彩绮丽浓艳饱和，印度经典风情油然而生。
每夜於户外的吧台也能尽享畅饮时光，「这儿每晚皆有不同的酒饮优惠，而女士们则可於每逢星期三傍晚5点后无限畅享红酒、白酒、西班牙果酒 (鸡尾酒) 等。逢周四，若点选特选酒饮还能获30%优惠噢！」
Started by the Olive Group of restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, Olive Kitchen + Bar was the first Indian Bar and Cafe concept to be housed on the Lower Ground Floor on the promenade level of Little Red Cube, serving up Indian-Fusion tapas style dishes since April 2013. Hailing from Kolkata, India, with over 15 years of experience in the kitchen, Chef Wahab Khan serves authentic Indian multi-cuisine with a cosy setting that is affordable and caters to the palette of the crowd here in JB. The restaurant is tastefully furnished with exotic Indian decorations, from colourful paintings to thoughtfully placed furnishing, while the ambience is elegant and modern with the touch of tradition.
Apart from winning locals over with their chic marina-side restaurant setting, Olive Kitchen + Bar has wormed its way into the hearts of many for their unique food concept of fusing Indian with Chinese cuisines. During the night, diners can enjoy a relaxing drink at the bar while listening to some good old retro and old school music, with happy hours promotion starting as early as 11am. 鲜榨果汁 Fresh Juices
虽说北印度美食并不会过于辛辣，但大人舌尖上的尝味士兵仍旧接获哨音命令，上场之前还是点杯舒爽冰凉的鲜榨果汁防患于未然吧！(左起) 青柠汁、西瓜汁、鲜橙汁与青苹果汁 (每杯RM18)，「看官们可否留意到每杯果汁里皆备有双份吸管？为免太快见底还是慢慢啜饮吧～」
It’s a good idea to whet our appetite with these light and refreshing fresh juices, which double up as a stimulator or little palate cleanser. Served with two straws to increase your enjoyment, we suggest you go easy as the juices will come in useful later in your meal…
开胃前菜 Starter – Olive’s Afghani Mixed Tandoor (Non Veg)
印度菜系中的开胃前菜一点也没打算让主食专美啊～ 看看这份大人钦点的北印度前菜 Olive’s Afghani Mixed Tandoor – Non Veg (虾子，鱼肉，鸡肉，烤肉串，RM87)，送上桌时香气喷喷热气腾腾啊～ 光看份量即知适合共享啦！在多种香料的华丽装饰下，件件烤炙入味的肉食非但完美保留了肉质的天然滋味，还平添了一缕异域迷人香气。「红彤彤的外型极易让人联想起超辣口感，但！所有肉食原来仅止于微辣程度，颇接近马新两地饕客的口味，所以看官们大可放心享用。种类繁复的微焦香料所带出的神秘印度美食滋味的确让尝遍中西餐的大人眼前一亮啊！」
【 大人小分享】Olive Kitchen + Bar 的料理皆无使用味精、酥油，并坚持采用不含胆固醇的食用油烹调。Olive 采取即点即煮的概念，所以点餐后需给予店家约 15-20 分钟的备餐时间。
A must order if you’re a fan of anything Tandoor, the Olive’s Afghani Mixed Tandoor platter features sizzling hot prawns, fish, chicken and Afghani sheesh kebab seasoned with different kinds of marinades before being cooked in a tandoor oven. The result is a smorgasbord of sweet and sour flavours that are a vibrant addition to any meal and is perfect for sharing.
PS: Olive Kitchen + Bar takes pride in the claim that no artificial flavouring or ghee is used in their dishes, and every dish is prepared fresh upon order. No beef is served and do allow for 15-20 minutes for your meals to be served.

开胃前菜 Starter – Olive’s Paneer Pasanda Pakora, Grilled Fish, Grilled Chicken
另三道开胃前菜所祭出的口感也不遑多让，外型类似酿豆腐的 Olive’s Paneer Pasanda Pakora (Cottage Cheese Sandwiches Stuffed with Special Spices and deep Fried with Gram Flour Batter coating, RM26) 其实跟豆腐完全沾不上边啊～「淡淡的芝士香与马铃薯、红萝卜及蔬菜香料碎粒融合后，口感好扎实！」
不嗜辣的饕客们有福啦，崭新推出的香烤鱼肉 (RM38) 与香烤鸡肉 (RM35) 沾上微酸、带有些许薄荷味的特制青酱后，滋味各异的香料与鲜美肉质在口中合作无间，果真越嚼越香！尤以鲜嫩多汁的香烤鱼肉甚讨大人欢心哦～
Olive’s Paneer Pasanda Pakora is yet another dish from the Mughlai cuisine which might appear to be nothing much to shout about but it was surprisingly good. Crispy deep fried gram flour sandwich with cottage cheese and special spices, we enjoyed eating together with the sliced onion strips and homemade creamy mint dip for lip-smacking goodness.
We also quite enjoyed both the succulent Grilled Butterfish and Grilled Chicken tenders which had a mild charred taste, and paired perfectly with the accompanying homemade mint sauce which deserved our special mention!

开胃前菜 Starter – Chicken Lollipop
登愣！大人至爱的开胃前菜来啦！食用起来方便至极的 Chicken Lollipop (RM30)， 滋味竟有些神似韩式炸鸡哦！「对大人来说，这是一道非常不像道地印度美食的前菜啊～ 讨喜的外型加上极合大众口味，难怪能成为必点的人气小食。酥脆皮衣被多种微甜、酸、辣的香料匀和后紧贴彼此，一口咬下后内里鲜嫩多汁，一不留神就横扫了半打🙀 ！大推！」
Bite-size appetisers are always a hit at any meal or gathering, but the result of this finger foods is so scrumptious and flavourful, yet has a cool name like Chicken Lollipop. Almost considered an hors d’oeuvre popular in Indian Chinese cuisine, the Chicken lollipop is essentially a frenched chicken winglet where the meat is cut loose from the bone end and pushed down to create a lollipop appearance. Wrapped in an aluminium foil at the bone end and served hot with Szechuan sauce, it’s easy to pick up and eat. We think anything that has the word lollipop in it wins hands down, and we’re sure you would agree LOL!

开胃前菜 Starter – Sukhee Bhindee
大人之前曾尝过酥炸苦瓜，这一回 Olive 的版本则为酥炸秋葵 (Sukhee Bhindee, RM21) ，这其实乃将羊角豆切片后再以匀和了香料的面粉酥炸起锅，香脆咸香的口感让大人一时忘了嘴里咀嚼着的是蔬菜啊！「超像零食的口感！虽说酥炸，却丝毫不油腻！」
Instead of the usual Karela (fried bitter gourd), the Sukhee Bhindee (fried okra) proved to be a welcome change. Packed with a tangy melange of mango powder and freshly roasted spices, the okra is stir-fried with onions and served with a garnish of fresh red chilli. We didn’t find any of the slime often associated with this vegetable snack, just fried mouth-poppin’ goodness!

主食 Main Course
窑烤坑内的极品！喜爱 Naan 的饕客们，这一盘四款的 Bread Platter (上图，Garlic Naan, Peshawari Naan, Stuffed Kulcha and Mint Prantha, RM18.50) 定能满足你的味蕾！「大人食用前心想这一套应能满足4 – 6人吧！哪知道其他料理的份量也好惊人，只有一个胃的大人顿时觉得左右为难啊～ 抵不过 Garlic Naan 的召唤，大人先吃了再打算吧！」
大人啊～ 无饭不欢的饕客们怎么办？那就来一份 Olive’s Combo Biryani (Tender pieces of Chicken, Lamb and Prawn cooked with Basmati Rice with fresh Vegetables served with Raitha, RM37) 吧！「比起一般所尝的黄姜饭，Olive 版本使用了长条形的印度大米，滋味更厚重，用料也丝毫不手软，计有鸡肉、羊肉与虾子。一旁的服务生此时提醒大人，记得搭上随附的酸奶拌饭更美味哦！」
Ready for mains (WHAT)? We bet you thought that was it, but there’s a wide variety of both vegetarian and meaty options which can be mixed and matched quite easily. If you’re in the mood for good naan, the Bread Platter that’s sufficient for four is a dream come true with Garlic Naan, Peshawari Naan (stuffed with nuts and sesame seeds), Stuffed Kulcha and Mint Prantha. The naan was very fluffy and tasted almost like a rich, savoury pancake and expels a lovely buttery smell. Although a plain naan is best as a delivery vehicle for the curries and dishes for the extra kick, we still couldn’t resist calling upon our favourite Garlic Naan instead to do the job!
If you are craving for a good plate of Nasi Biryani, then you can’t go wrong with the Olive’s Combo Biryani, served with a comforting bowl of Raita (yoghurt) with tender pieces of chicken, lamb and prawn cooked with fluffy, long grained basmati rice that’s fragrant and oh-so-flavoursome. We would happily eat on its own with a liberal dousing of curry.
若单从外观来审视，想必看官们落足眼力也瞧不出个所以然吧！答案揭晓：左上角原来竟潜藏了一道南印度佳肴！这道 Chicken Pepper Masala (RM37) 还真是充满了南印度料理特征，呛辣！「浓重的呛辣胡椒咖喱味与刚刚所尝的数道北印度料理截然不同，大人建议看官们最后才品尝为佳哦～」
右上角的 Goan Prawn Curry (RM40) 好可口！纯粹以虾子为主角的印度咖喱菜式远比鸡肉或羊肉少见，「香甜浓稠的酱汁有点类似沾点印度煎饼的咖喱酱，不愧为 Naan 的最佳拍档！」
左下角这道深橄榄绿的印度料理对大人来说并不陌生，名为 Gosht Saagwala (RM29) 的菠菜泥搭配无骨羊肉块，「主厨将羊肉烹至软嫩入味，带点薄荷味的菠菜泥适度调合了羊肉的腥膻味，轻咬一口即丝丝散落舌尖。」
右下角色彩艳丽的 Murg Tikka Butter Masala (RM35) 为鸡肉料理，「一尝之下即知这是一道极受大众欢迎的北印度料理，辣度低，酱汁偏甜。大人觉得印度佳肴简直是白饭杀手，浓香酱汁让大人禁不住直添饭啊～」
This Chicken Pepper Masala is seriously comparable to some of the best masala chicken anywhere. A definite must-try, the dish is potent and sweet and spicy as hell, but the thick paste had us licking off every inch of this moist and tender chicken. By the way, this is really spicy, so you’ve been warned. You’ll end up with a churning stomach for the rest of the day (and night), but this is so worth it.
A gem in India’s sparkling crown of fish and seafood dishes, this coconut-enriched Goan Prawn Curry is another local specialty that was swimmingly fresh, succulent, and simmered in a potent gravy that thrilled us with its velvety texture and tantalising flavour.
The Punjabi penchant for meat and leafy vegetables combine to find an intuitive balance, with boneless cubes of kid cooked with spinach, cumin and a generous sprinkling of kasoori methi that makes this Gosht Saagwala a delightful lamb delicacy to savour.
Butter chicken or murgh makhani is a common Indian dish with its roots in Punjabi cuisine. Tender pieces of boneless chicken are marinated and cooked in tandoor and then simmered in a mixture of garlic, coriander, tomato and creamy sauce. The Murg Tikka Butter Masala served here is slightly sweeter and has a mild spiciness to it. Although butter has been added in, this dish did not feel too heavy on our palette.

北印度甜点真是颠覆了大人我的味蕾啊～ 怎么说呢？除了Kulfi 印度版冰淇淋尚在想象中的范围外，另两道类似棉花球口感的甜食想必只有超级无敌嗜甜的饕客们才能领略个中奥妙了。
上图左边的 Kulfi 印度版冰淇淋 (Kulfi Mango/Pistachio, Frozen Milk and Cream Dessert, flavoured with Mango / Pistachios and Cardamoms, RM10) 口感与本地冰淇淋类似，「唯一的分别就是那淡淡的香料味，应该不难被本地饕客接受。」而右边这两份被大人誉为超级甜甜甜点的 Gulab Jamun (枣红色甜点，RM7) 及 Ras Malai (白色甜点，RM8)，滋味到底如何？「简单来说，枣红色甜点的口感如同浸在糖浆中的棉花球；白色甜点则如浸在炼奶中的棉花球。真是甜入心扉啊～」据悉这是印度极受欢迎的甜食，每咬一口皆能感受甜度百分百的糖浆滋味，本地甜点与之相较下顿时变得平淡无味啊～
咦？这形似大米的白色颗粒是？经过 Anthony 的解释下咱们才知晓这其实是孜然 (Cumin)，也就是印度版的天然口香糖，饭后想要清新口气？记得抓上一小把嚼食。
Finally, dessert time! When was the last time you had creamy ice-cream better known as Kulfi? Best done in a traditional pistachio, this was our first time trying out a mango twist, and it works quite well! Of course, we couldn’t just call it a night without going for the quintessential Gulab Jamun (deep-fried pastry balls soaked in cardamom and sugar syrup) and classic Bengali dessert Ras Malai (creamed cheese patties served in reduced milk and garnished with pistachios) of course. Most non-Indians probably can’t stand the super sweet taste of these fried milk balls in sugar syrup, but we certainly ended our meal on a high (pun intended)!
The finale arrived when we were offered tiny beans of sugar from a small dish with a spoon. According to Anthony, these Cumin seeds are meant to relieve more than just garlic breath, but also helpful in digestion. Considering the excessive amounts of spice, cream, and fried deliciousness we’ve consumed, there’s not much harm in piling a tiny handful of seeds into our palms and knocking them back on our way out the door.
