好人缘的龙目美食:来自小巽他群岛上的家乡风味 Lombok cuisine that had us “Mampir Lagi” for sure!

与巴厘岛两相望的龙目岛 (Lombok),为印尼西努沙登加拉 (Nusa Tenggara Barat) 省岛屿,位属小巽他群岛之一。碧蓝的海天一线,壮丽绝美的火山,有着比巴厘岛还美的景色,却无巴厘岛的纷繁,纯朴的民风让人神往。

吃香嗜辣的大人曾经想过如果不生长在东南亚,还真不晓得自己最爱的滋味到底会是什么呢~ 那怎会突然提及龙目岛?当然是因为今日大人要推荐的印尼美食馆 Mampir Lagi,其女主人 Henny 正是来自於如人间天堂般的龙目岛 😊 。

As the name suggests, Mampir Lagi (which means “come again” in Indonesian) is a restaurant that specialises in Lombok food, and we must say that this humble eatery is pretty legit, having tried similar dishes while in Indonesia and rest assured that the dishes here are of the same excellent quality. For the uninitiated, Lombok is an Indonesian island east of Bali and part of West Nusa Tenggara (or Nusa Tenggara Barat in Indonesian) – a province in Indonesia which comprises the western portion of the Lesser Sunda Islands, with the exception of Bali which is its own province.

For an island whose very name loosely translates as “chilli”, it is inevitable that food figures very highly in Lombok life. In fact, a wealth of exotic tastes, textures, aromas and spicy surprises are in store for the adventurous foodies willing to venture out of their comfort zone. So, here we are at Restoran Mampir Lagi for a taste of Lombok in Johor Bahru, the adopted home of Henny Lumintang for the past 14 years!

2016年5月於新山彩虹花园开始建立这家庭温馨事业的 Henny 落户新山已有14年,热爱烹饪与烘培的她原本只专心承接网上订单,所累积的好口碑让她开始思索展店事宜。选址于此乃因有次偶然经过此处发现这空置的半间商业店面 (隔壁为印裔传统理发屋),与夫婿 Jason (本身在新加坡也合资法国餐厅 Choupinette 并身兼厨师一职) 商讨后便决定承租下来经营印尼家乡美食。可容30人的餐厅室内面积虽不大,整体布置仍显宽敞清爽,面面俱到、功能齐备。「店家的好人缘!看看红砖墙上的拍立得照片就知道啦!」

Hailing from Lombok, Indonesia and passionate about cooking and baking, Henny had earlier been selling her popular cakes online and serving her dishes at private events. As her business grew, it was timely to launch her own restaurant. With the encouragement and support of her husband, Jason Antoney (chef and partner at Choupinette, a French cafe in Singapore), Henny opened Mampir Lagi to have her own restaurant and bakery, taking up just half a shop lot in Taman Pelangi, with the other half is occupied by an Indian barber shop. The humble eatery’s compact space which comfortably seats 30 pax is simply furnished, clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed the soothing gamelan soundtrack which was playing softly in the background. Judging from the Polaroid photos of satisfied customers decorating the wall, we can see who often “mampir lagi”, and don’t be surprised to spot us among them from now on LOL!

Henny started us off with the Goalpara black tea blend by Teh Perbawati Sukabumi, a popular favourite among tea lovers in Indonesia. Refreshing!

新鲜鳄梨汁 Fresh Avocado Juice (Seasonal)

龙目版本的鳄梨汁!印尼品种的鳄梨较平日咱们所见的鳄梨大,表皮顺滑,滋味不会太厚重。「加入了巧克力与后,一杯来自龙目的纯正滋味登场咯!香甜浓郁的滋味让人失去拒绝的能力。」Mampir Lagi 的鳄梨汁属季节性饮品,有缘才能喝到啊~

Now, this quintessentially fresh Indonesian Avocado Juice is one you should not miss due to its seasonal availability as Mampir Lagi only uses fruit from Indonesia. This “jus avocad” is smoother and sweeter than the local variety and is served with chocolate milk for a much richer and creamier taste.

花生酱虾饼沙拉 Gado-gado

另一道印尼版本的花生酱虾饼沙拉 Gado-gado,加入了香浓的花生酱与食蔬后,「这道传自爪哇的小食,属本地少见的食用法,送入口后花生酱的甜味先攻占味蕾,之后才是虾饼香。」口味偏咸辣的本地人第一次入口后或许会觉得这滋味好陌生。

Gado-gado is a simple yet delicious and healthy dish of steamed vegetable salad with a spicy peanut dressing combined to induce a delightful taste that lingers after every bite. As a starter dish, we can’t really go wrong with this…

五层蛋卷 Telur Dadar

大人非常钟爱的一道菜,以五层蛋皮捆卷而成的 Telur Dadar,里头还匿藏了红萝卜、韭菜等,「蛋香实在诱人,淳厚扎实不油腻的口感,大人我一个人就能解决一份!」

We have to say that their Telur Dadar is by far one of the best “omelette” we’ve had, comprising five layers with boiled soft vegetables, chopped carrot, onion and scallion sandwiched in the folds, making this pillowy-tender egg dish so irresistible that we couldn’t bear to it share around :P.

Ayam Pelalah

带有黄姜香味的 Ayam Pelalah 同样也是道大人初次品尝的滋味。「带有汤汁的嫩鸡肉丝易下饭,咀嚼时有股很特别的微咸、酸、辣的交织滋味,同时又夹带椰香,大人的味蕾一时之间,好忙碌。」

If you haven’t had this dish before, the Ayam Pelalah is basically shredded chicken breast meat combined with ginger, lime and chilli. Cooked in the traditional Indonesian style, the Ayam Pelalah is accented with a special blend that you just can’t get with other chicken dishes and that really get our taste buds working!

Ayam Panggang Madura

看似香辣的鸡肉竟然不是辣的!送入口众后才知这同样也是一道带有浓浓椰丝香甜的印尼版本鸡肉佳肴 Ayam Panggang Madura「先煮后烤的鸡肉早已软透,里外皆匿着椰丝浓香,绝对是椰丝迷们、嗜甜辣者的最爱!」

The savoury Ayam Pangang Madura is actually another chicken dish smothered in a thick greasy mound of ground spices which tastes mildly spicy sweet, with a hint of smokiness and strong coconut flavour lending a more intense profile for curry lovers.

Sayur Asam

爪哇式的蔬菜以汤汁方式上桌啦!这一道 Sayur Asam 的滋味有点类似罗送汤,「喝着微酸辣的蔬菜汤,原来还能平衡嘴里稍重口味的余韵呢!」

This staple from Java is a delicious soup with vegetable sweetness and a slight tang from tamarind juice, making it is a perfect complement to “combat” the fried and spicy dishes with all that feisty chilli sensations.

Nasi Ayam Penyet

大人我超推荐这儿的自制新鲜 sambal,搭上超香脆多汁的 Ayam Penyet 简直迷惑人心~ 「这是道大人会一而再而三点选的套餐!以香料抹身腌渍后再沥干酥炸,耗工费时才能成就这极其美味的 Ayam Penyet!不得不提每两天制作一次的 sambal, 真的好新鲜!据主人家透露,第一天刚制好后会较辣,次日的辣度则会减弱些。」大人一不小心又再要了多几碟啊~

The Nasi Ayam Penyet is yet another iconic East Javanese’s speciality that comes with a fried chicken thigh with sides of tofu, tempeh, long beans, tomato and cucumber. Served with a bowl of boiled white rice, clear chicken soup and a generous dose of homemade sambal chilli made fresh every other day, the zesty, spicy sauce pairs perfectly with the fried chicken thigh, packing enough sharp sting to wake up our taste receptors to enjoy the flavoursome meat.

Nasi Rawon

「熬煮了超过3小时的牛肉汤,肉质超软嫩入味!连肉筋都入口即化呢!」以黑果、小茴香、蓝姜、香茅、柠檬草与各式香料等无油爆香、聚合而成的精华汤汁,微酸咸香又顺滑,让人止不了口啊。

Cooked with loads of herbs and spices till the beef is tender, the Nasi Rawon is another traditional East Javanese dish that we simply couldn’t have enough. Eaten with salted egg, rice and sambal chilli, we couldn’t resist the tasty beefy broth cooked with buah keluak, with its deep complex herb flavours with subtle bitterness extremely gratifying.

Nasi Uduk & Fish Satay

Nasi Uduk 是印尼传统以椰汁煮成的香饭,「大人非常喜欢的饭食!淡淡的香气,煮得既软而又不油腻,太美味了!搭上炸鸡与鱼肉沙爹,颇有本地风味噢!」

The Nasi Uduk is our Indonesian neighbour’s answer to Malay’s nasi lemak. Eaten with a piece of fried chicken, boiled egg, sambal belacan and prawn crackers, the Nasi Uduk has more spices in the mix besides the usual coconut milk, with more depth from additional spices like lemongrass, ginger, galangal, bay leaves, pandan leaves and coriander. On the other hand, the humble Fish Satay is marinated and grilled perfectly until the meat is tender and guess what, it tastes wonderful even on its own without any dip.

Ikan Goreng (Ikan Merah)

「只以盐抹身酥炸的红鲷,一看即知油温与火候掌控极佳,外脆内鲜多汁,毫不油腻!」再蘸上主人家特制的酱汁与 sambal kicap,从头到尾每个部分皆不能错过!必点!

The star for tonight’s dinner has to be the whole fresh Ikan Merah, which was marinated in several herbs and spices before being expertly fried till crisp and golden brown outside, while the meat remained snowy white, moist and tender inside. The fish tastes so good that we could eat whole bowls of plain rice that are best savoured with two types of exciting sambal sauces.

Homemade Cakes & Cookies + Coffee

当初原只想烘培蛋糕赠予身边的好友们,没想到口碑极好!Jason 在旁语带心疼地说「有时半夜起床时,发现她还在烘制蛋糕。」骨子里留着完美主意者的血液,原来 Henny 所制的蛋糕皆是自学而成,再经不断研发改良,难怪滋味比例甚佳。「大人真的对他们家的蛋糕另眼相看,饼干的口感也非常令人惊艳噢!」

Besides traditional Indonesian fare, Henny‘s homemade cakes are also hugely popular with walk-in and corporate customers as they are tender and not overly dry or sweet. We had the pleasure to sample her signature carrot cake, red velvet, cream puff and dark chocolate eclair. Besides Henny‘s wonderful bakes, Mampir Lagi is another good place to chill with a cuppa of Indonesian tea or coffee as well.

店家的11岁女儿将店名取名为 Mampir Lagi,原是印尼语中的「再回来」之意,「看来真是帮妈妈取对名了啊!」不止美食、糕点诱人,更赞的是他们家的 sambal,必试!

True to their 11-year old daughter’s words, Mampir Lagi is serving regulars, including yours truly, who are coming back again (and again) to enjoy Henny’s home-cook meals, homemade cakes and cookies, and of course, the ever addictive sambal chilli we simply can’t go without. Do not hesitate to ask for more if it runs out ;P

If there was ever an opportunity in JB to indulge ourselves on Lombok cuisine in the most tastiest of ways, this is it.
