当大人首次从同僚口中听闻此家名号时，即不假思索回问了一句「噢？餐厅为啥以此命名？」一切解答待大人翻看着英捷堡的餐谱时，才知晓原来英捷堡 Engelberg 乃欧洲一美丽纯朴小镇之名，店老板以此名为打造本土道地美食风味搭配欧陆品味的心思，从这儿的料理摆盘可见一斑。
Despite opening its doors for business for less than three weeks, there is a sense of familiarity to the place where the taste behind Engelberg (named after an alpine town in Central Switzerland) is largely inspired by the nostalgic times where food was mostly homemade with tender love. More than just dishes we eat every day, they’ve also become a form of comfort, something familiar but always tasty and good such that the young and old flock to this kopitiam every now and then for a taste of their childhood. And we can feel just as happy, if not more because we get to both save money and eat what we want. No need to crack our head over the dilemma of indulging ourselves or saving money. Who says good comfort food has to be expensive?
PS: In celebration of Father’s Day this weekend, all dads who dine between 8am to 1pm will take home a set of pastries, while stock lasts.
What makes this cafe such a great place to hang out is the thoughtful provision of these fast charging stations within see-through lockers so that our mobile devices can never go hungry as well!
招牌饮品 Signature beverages
大人今日点选了咖啡稀 (Kopi C, 热RM2.80/冷RM3.20)、鸳鸯 (Yuan Yang, 热RM2.60/冷RM3.20)及三色奶茶 (Three Layer Milk Tea, RM4.20)，拥有50多年冲泡咖啡经验的师傅双手俐落灵巧、收放自如毫不迟疑，三杯拿手冷热饮眨眼间就在桌上等候咱们与之亲密接触，「经验老道，果然惊艳！」率直的老师傅原来打从8岁起便开始其咖啡生涯，无师自通全靠脑筋转得快，据悉师傅更有两个钟头内连冲300杯咖啡的记录呢！
With over 50 years of experience grinding, brewing and serving old-style, traditional Nanyang Kopi since the tender age of 8, while boasting a personal record of making 300 consecutive cups of kopi in 2 hours, we knew our beverages would be in good hands. Just as we thought, our Kopi C has a rich looking golden brown colour with seductive, subtle fresh kopi aroma, good body with nice bitter sweetness, while the Yuan Yang and Three Layer Milk Tea were as good as anything we could get from the old downtown kopitiams
在咖啡店里点美食，桌子一定要被道地料理摆得满满地才算大人的风格啊～ 看着那填入满满金枪鱼丝的鸡蛋金枪鱼班兰吐司 (Egg & Tuna, RM7.30) 与滋味浓郁的法式花生酱吐司 (French Egg Toast Peanut Butter, RM5.40) ，大人的食欲都来啦！「这儿的吐司万幸没被一分为二为超薄版本！该有的厚度还是得有，一口吃下才能感受面粉与馅料混合后的那份实在。」
Certainly goldie rather than oldie, there are good reasons for the sustained popularity of these simple toasts which makes such delicious sandwiches, and the Egg & Tuna and French Egg Toast Peanut Butter did not disappoint. Both toasts were not overly sliced, and they were quite generous with the fillings to achieve a balanced satiable ratio.
招牌椰浆饭 Nasi Lemak Dynasty
淡淡班兰香饭在嘴里越嚼越生香，这道招牌椰浆饭 (Nasi Lemak Dynasty, RM9.80) 简直群星拱照，香脆炸鸡块、肥美乌达、脆虾饼、腌酸菜、软滑溏心蛋、黄瓜片、花生、江鱼仔，还有最佳搭档甜辣叁芭酱，「本就绝对美味的国民早餐被认真妆点了后，纵然色香味随之升级，价位难得保持亲民。」
Served on a bed of fragrant pandan rice, the Nasi Lemak Dynasty is accompanied with otah-otah, boiled egg, papadums, cucumber, peanut and ikan bilis, the chicken was succulent and delicious, especially when dipped into the homemade sambal. Nasi Lemak is only as good as the sambal, and the finishing touches really hit the spot, making this savoury treat all the more sedap!
鸡肉印度香饭 Chicken Briyani / 软壳蟹辣沙 Laksa with Fried Soft Shell Crab
隔着屏幕也能嗅着香气！谁能拒绝这两道鸡肉印度香饭 (上图，Chicken Briyani, RM13.80) 与软壳蟹辣沙 (下图，Laksa with Fried Soft Shell Crab, RM12.80)？！以大量香料与调料烹制而成的粒粒澄香，浓郁异香早已掳获了一票土生土长的东南亚子民们，搭配香辣弹牙鸡腿再拌着配料与叁芭一块儿吃，滋味奇厚却无需感到罪恶，只因印度香米的淀粉质比普通白米少了一半之多。「本土早餐就有如此魅力，大人根本无法想像自己能活在别的国度里啊～ 」
Whenever we are at a loss of what to order or spoilt for choice, this fried rice dish of Indian Muslim influence is always our safest bet. Doused in gravy that was mildly spicy and served with papadums and acar acar that added some much-appreciated acidity, the dish strikes an impressive balance between sweet, sour and spicy, making it an excellent lunch combo. If only they serve the Briyani on a banana leaf that will make the experience all the more authentic, but we were surprised by how un-guilty we felt after consuming the Chicken Briyani here.
Our bowl of piping hot, aromatic Laksa with Fried Soft Shell Crab also came promptly and we dug in right away. The vermicelli was cooked al dente but it’s the gravy, which is not to thick but still managed to pack lots of flavour within itself that impressed us. Rather than the usual ingredients of laksa like prawns, this laksa is unique because their bowl is topped up with a welcoming piece of fried soft shell crab. Need we say more?
仁当米暹组合 MeeSiam with Chicken Rendang
仁当米暹组合 (MeeSiam with Chicken Rendang, RM9.60) 里那特大鸡腿毫不犹豫地占据了碟中大半版面，又是另一道十元以下的超值美食！「螳螂捕蝉，黄雀在后！正当大人想对娇嫩欲滴的蛋黄大开杀戒之时，一不小心就被鸡腿上那随后而来的仁当辣劲给惊醒了！ 还是快吃些腌酸菜扑灭舌尖上的火苗方为上策！」
What makes this mee siam so addictive, besides its piquantly sweet, spicy, and tangy gravy is the Chicken which was a joy to devour. The rendang was thick with a spicy aftertaste, sufficiently soaked into the chicken, rendering the meat tender, chewy and flavourful. The accompanying homemade sambal also managed to lift the MeeSiam with Chicken Rendang with some oomph and depth.
乡村炒饭 Kampung Fried Rice ／ 冬炎炒冬粉 TomYam Fried Dong Hoon
材料看似简单的乡村炒饭 (上图，Kampung Fried Rice, RM9.50) 滋味奇佳，大人尤其钟意江鱼仔、洋葱、蛋花与葱段交替缠於油香饭粒之上的和谐度，「这一回目标极度明确，就是将薄染油脂的香米饭统统送入五脏庙里！」
冬炎炒冬粉 (下图，TomYam Fried Dong Hoon, RM8.90) 秉承冬炎该有的酸辣尊严，而且毫不手软使劲让大人每吃一口皆得小歇一会儿才能再挑战她的倔强！「你还真让大人对你又爱又惧啊！」
Another of our all-time favourite that seldom goes wrong, the Kampung Fried Rice was straightforward sedap and served with ikan bilis, spring onion, sunny side up and sambal chilli. The rice was mildly hot when mixed with the sambal and ikan bilis, adding an extra crunch and sort of neutralises the spiciness of the former and gave another layer to the flavour, though it was a little bit on the greasy side.
The TomYam Fried Dong Hoon was very well seasoned and the vermicelli is simmered till the right amount of doneness, slightly al dente and still firm to the bite. So if you’re one who enjoys “punishing” your tongue, this (dish) is it!
奶奶家乡粥 Porridge Mama Original
同桌里终于有股飘逸清流，不嗜辣或口味较为清淡的看官们别烦心，大人这回也点选了奶奶家乡粥 (Porridge Mama Original, RM7.20) 暖暖胃，一小块豆腐乳、焖花生、橄榄菜、豆豉鲮鱼、腌菜心，油条，「足以让味蕾返乡啊！」
Oh the beguiling call of comfort a porridge brings, no matter the occasion, is a simple joy that instantly brightens up our day. The warm bowl of Porridge Mama Original was cooked to just the right texture and really does an excellent job complimenting the various savoury side dishes comprising fermented tofu, braised peanuts, preserved vegetables, steamed fish in soy sauce and youtiao.
凡驱车行驶途经柔佛再也 Dedap 区的看官们必能瞧见这家占据角头商业单位的本地食肆，优越的地理位置让英捷堡毫不费力立即摄入眼帘。炎炎夏日再也不必忧心到哪儿避暑解馋，全室冷气的空间简直就是另类开胃良策！「屈指一算，大人才尝了不到餐谱所示的一成料理，来人啊！快为大人安排吉时择日再来！」
For those with a sharp eye for good food, we aren’t the least surprised if you have already fixed your sights on this prominent corner shop eatery conveniently located along the busy Dedap precinct in Johor Jaya. A welcome respite from the unpredictable elements of late, this fully air-conditioned eatery’s menu is certainly worth braving the weather for, leaving us with no excuse to not trying these time-tested foods we all grew up with.
