When a restaurant called itself Beauty In The Pot, there is no need for any hard-selling or cheap gimmicks to get anyone rushing towards One KM shopping mall located in Tanjung Katong. There is, however, a need to call and make your reservation in advanced to avoid disappointment. When you can enjoy the best of both fare and fairness, who wouldn’t?
Not to be mistaken for your usual steamboat fare, Beauty in The Pot offers so much more than a classic, family heartwarming meal. Inspired by the culture of food for health, this hot pot concept offers nourishing soup bases that are collagen-based that promise rich flavours coupled with abundant benefits. No harm trying, right?
The restaurant provides an iPad for each table so we could look at the menu slowly while swiping them one by one. Now our journey towards true culinary gratification begins.
We were offered 3 choices from these refillable drinks to whet our appetite while waiting for the main dishes to be served: Mixed fruit tea served warm, chilled luo han guo or sour plum juice. The latter was so refreshing that we must have gulped down at least 3 refills each, easily!
One of the most enjoyable steamboat “ritual” is the fun in curating our own dipping sauces, with selections from the normal chili flanks and light soya sauce, to the more sophisticated sesame and peanut sauce. Rice is free flow here, but with the prospect of gaining beauty over pounds, for once the carbs will jolly well take a back seat.
Dinner is now finally served, and the very first thing we were told that the fried tofu skin takes only a magical 3 seconds in the hot soup to be cooked to perfection, so make sure you count this carefully, or live to regret! The service staff were very friendly and efficient, with everything laid before us in no time at all. For sure, beauty certainly comes at a price, although that price doesn’t necessarily have to create holes in our purse nor our pockets. If only all these ingredients were served buffet-style, but alas NO haha.
Another must-try here is their signature Homemade Fish Tofu, made from yellow tail fish, soya bean and egg white that literally melted in our mouth. With its silky texture making it rather delicate, make sure you handle this tofu with much tender loving care.
Can’t get enough of nourishment? Ask for more soup refills. The soup bases at Beauty In The Pot are pretty much like a “magic potion” that promises to deliver beauty and nourishing benefits, hence we went for the ultimate “Yin” & “Yang” Twin Flavours Broth ($25 per pot, a better deal than if you were to order them individually at $20 per pot). Rich, naturally creamy and bursting with collagen goodness from quality shark’s cartilage, both tasted flavorsome to the max and brought smiles and beauty to our faces.
That’s not all. Our hot pot lunch concluded with complimentary rounds of icy Yuzu Drink which was refreshingly effective as an after-meal palate cleanser.
