NAVA Designer Timepieces

Founded in 1970, Italian brand Nava specialised in the production of high-end stationary before branching out to cover products ranging from luggage to watches. The geometric characteristics of the Plicate watch by Benjamin Hubert, inspired by the folded pleats of a paper fan caught our attention. This distinctive timepiece features a pleated surface along the inside of the strap as well as around the face where the three dimensional pleats replace typical 2D graphics usually found on watch faces. The best part? The pleats on the underside of the strap allow for the flow of air between the watch strap and the wearers wrist, helping to prevent the build up of dirt. Need we say more?

Suprematism is the latest watch from Projects, designed by Milan-based designer Denis Guidone. Inspired by the invention of Russian artist Kazimir Malevich, one of the earliest and most radical developments in abstract art, Denis Guidone’s homage to the art movement frames bold shapes and colours which continue to shift composition with each passing second. The timepiece features a 37mm diameter face, a black silicone band and a Japanese Quartz movement.

When the late Modernist Danish architect and industrial designer Arne Jacobsen designed a building, he didn’t just develop the exterior, he designed everything in it – from tables and chairs to fixtures and fittings. A number of design icons emerged from this process, including the best-selling Bankers watch, evolved from a clock Jacobsen designed for the National Bank of Denmark’s headquarters. Thanks to Danish Homeware brand Rosendahl, who has since condensed the design of several of Jacobsen’s wall clocks to the size of a wristwatch, you can now wear timepieces also created from the designs of clocks hanging in Aarhus and Rødovre City Halls in Denmark.
